The Femmes began in 2022 as a response to the lack of representation
in the Boston music scene.

The Femmes were established in Boston in 2022, with many of our members having experience in wedding and events bands. During this time, we observed a notable lack of diversity both on and off stage. As of 2023, only 12% of professional musicians in Boston's bands are women, and among that small percentage, 90% are vocalists. This highlights a significant absence of women and nonbinary musicians, particularly in backline roles. Unfortunately, this pattern is seen in music scenes across the country.

Our mission is to create a space where women, nonbinary, and LGBTQ+ musicians and audiences are not just tolerated, but celebrated.

For our wedding clients, on what is supposed to be one of the biggest days of your life, you deserve a wedding band that is not just supportive, but THRILLED to be a part of your special day.

For Pride organizers, you can relax knowing that your live entertainment is reflective of the people who will be attending your event.

For allies, you can know your investment is not only uplifting musicians with marginalized identities, but is working to support the greater community!

And here’s the kicker:

The Femmes are actually good, if we do say so ourselves. Our musicians have anywhere between 5-15+ years of professional experience, and have been booked solid since our Coming Out Party at Club Cafe in Boston in February 2023.

Finding quick success in the MA market and all across New England, The Femmes have become one of the top party bands, performing for the Museum of Science, the Human Rights Campaign, the Celtics Pride Night, the Red Sox Pride Night, the Southeast Alaska State Fair, and First Night Boston, just to name a few. We’ve played all over the country and the world, including weddings in Turcu, Finland, and Toronto, Canada. Heck, we even have a Boston Globe article about us!

TLDR, we aren’t just a diversity hire. We’re a highly professional and accomplished wedding & events band, AND we’re girls & theys ;)
